time for a little organization

If you’re like me even a little bit, you despise clutter and all things “messy”! I’ve gotten better but let me tell you, before having Emery I was a neat freak and couldn’t stand a mess. I dedicated a lot of time to cleaning, organizing, redecorating and crafting to make my life a little more organized and clutter free! Everyone told me a baby changed everything, and they were right!

After having Emery, I didn’t have the time to do these things as often so I’ve slowly had to find a new normal..a new organized..a new way to be a neat freak! I now understand there is a big difference in clutter, something being dirty, and a good ole’ mess made by precious little hands! I love the little messes she makes, even if it’s stickers all over the house! I’m talking on the doors, on chairs, on the floor, on her, on the dog..you get it and I LOVE it!

I’ve learned to put my energy in to the things that help me keep our home and surroundings organized and picked up (most of the time)! I try to clean 1 room a day or target a certain area of the house so I don’t have to spend my whole weekend cleaning. I also try to do a load of laundry every day or every other day. It’s so easy to throw a load in before running an errand or cooking dinner. Hang it up or throw it in the dryer when you get back or before bed and VOILA no mountain of laundry! This method has really helped me!

Even though I found a way to keep our house clean and picked up, we have still collected a lot of stuff or junk over the years that we don’t need! A couple of weeks ago I decided I had to dig deep and target the tough jobs! To start I made a list of 3 things I wanted to focus on. Let’s be honest, making a huge list of 10 things to do would never get done, so I started small!

I started with the storage space because that’s not going to make a huge mess in the middle of our house! I can leave most of it in the garage or in the storage room while I go through it. I am taking everything out of storage and going through it ALL! If we don’t see a need for it in the near or long-term future, we are tossing or donating it. If we decide to keep an item, it will be stored on shelves, in bins, or as neatly as possible. If you have a hard time getting rid of things, ask yourself if that item really means something to you or if you’ll ever use it again? Will you miss it if it’s gone? If the answer is NO, you know what to do!

I know this is a huge task but I’m ready! You would be amazed at how much you can get done in 2 hours while your little one is napping! Make a list of what you want to accomplish, turn on some music, focus on the task you’re working on, and get to work! It is proven that organization and tidiness help with stress, anxiety, and depression. If you find yourself feeling these things, I encourage you to start sorting through your home and see how much it helps! You will be so glad you did!

I would love to know how you organize and how you keep your home and life clutter free! I love hearing from you!

I’ll be writing more on how this goes for me!
